At Verdant Church, we believe truth matters because God has revealed Himself through His Word. These beliefs shape how we worship, disciple, serve, and live on mission together.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and trustworthy Word of God. Scripture is God’s revelation to humanity and our final authority for faith, doctrine, and daily living. The entire Bible points to Jesus Christ and God’s plan of redemption.
God
We believe there is one true and living God who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe God the Father lovingly rules over creation with wisdom, holiness, and grace. We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will one day return in glory. Jesus is the only way of salvation and reconciliation with God. We believe the Holy Spirit convicts people of sin, leads them to salvation, indwells every believer, empowers the church, and produces spiritual growth in the life of the Christian.
Humanity & Salvation
We believe every person is created in the image of God and therefore has inherent dignity, value, and worth. Because of sin, humanity is separated from God and in need of salvation. We believe salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Through repentance and faith in Christ, people are forgiven, made new, and given eternal life. We believe salvation includes both the immediate transformation of the believer and the lifelong process of growing to become more like Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Church
We believe the church is the body of Christ made up of all believers, and that the local church is God’s primary plan for worship, discipleship, fellowship, and mission. We believe the church exists to make disciples, proclaim the gospel, and help people grow in spiritual maturity. We affirm the biblical offices of pastor and deacon. While both men and women are gifted for ministry and service, we believe the office of pastor is reserved for qualified men as taught in Scripture.
Baptism & The Lord’s Supper
We believe baptism is the immersion of a believer in water after salvation as a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. We believe the Lord’s Supper is a symbolic remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus and a celebration of the hope we have in Him.
The Kingdom & Last Things
We believe God is sovereign over all things and that Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return one day. There will be a future resurrection, final judgment, and the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom. Those who trust in Christ will spend eternity with Him. Those who reject Christ remain separated from God.
Mission & Christian Living
We believe every follower of Jesus is called to make disciples and live on mission. As Christians, we seek to live with holiness, compassion, humility, generosity, and truth while caring for the vulnerable, strengthening families, and pointing people to Jesus. We believe marriage is a covenant relationship between one man and one woman, and that the family is foundational to both the church and society.
Cooperation & Religious Liberty
We gladly partner with other like-minded churches and ministries for the sake of the gospel without compromising biblical truth.
We believe every person has the freedom to respond to God according to their conscience without coercion from the government or religious institutions.
These beliefs are rooted in the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 and reflect the theological convictions of Verdant Church. We know a statement of faith cannot answer every question or capture the fullness of who God is. But these truths anchor us. They shape how we follow Jesus, disciple people, raise families, serve our city, and build the church. Above all, we want to be a people deeply rooted in Christ, growing together, and reaching the world with the gospel.
